Canine Nosework
Breeze has started training in the fun sport of Nosework!
Nosework is a canine sport created to mimic professional detection dog tasks. One dog and one handler form a team. The dogs must find a hidden target odor, often ignoring distractors (such as food or toys), and alert the handler. After the dog finds the odor they are rewarded with food or a toy.
Nose Work involves four search elements : container, interior, exterior, and vehicles. Nose work trials may involve searching for blind hides, multiple hides, and, at higher levels, searching for an unknown number of hides.
Breeze is currently capable of searching the first nose work scent of Birch and is currently capable of searching for hides at a level sufficient for an ORT (Odour recognition test). We are hoping that Nose work trials will be introduced to Australia soon.
Stay tuned for updates!
Update 02/07/2016: The first ever inaugural ORT in Victoria was just held, Breeze and I entered and she managed a pass!!!! Just so delighted!! Breeze is now officially qualified to trial in nosework in Australia!! :)
